Once your dress has arrived in store you will be contacted and invited to try on your dress.
During peak wedding season we prefer to book this first fitting on a Thursday evening so that a seamstress will be available to begin fitting your dress. Your final balance will also be due at this appointment. It is a good idea to use this time to think about styling your dress and ordering further accessories, for example your veil and headpiece.
(Alternatively, you may find local alteration specialists on line however we cannot vouch for their service or price structure)
At Mathilda Rose we have two full time seamstresses, both work on an independent self employed basis and are not employed by Mathilda Rose. However, for your convenience, all of your fittings will take place at Mathilda Rose. A minimum of two fittings will be required, one for pinning and one to check that everything is perfect. We charge a small one off fee of £25 for hosting this service.
Fittings take place on Thursday evenings, between 6pm and 10pm. Please note that Saturday appointments for fittings are not usually possible, particularly during the peak wedding season (March – November) please consider this when scheduling your diary. Payment should be made directly to the seamstress by cash or cheque. An estimated cost will be advised at your first fitting. As a guideline a hem and bodice adjustment will be charged from £250.
At your fitting you will need your shoes and underwear. A change of shoes or underwear at a later date can change the fit of your dress and incur further alterations to your dress and additional cost to you.
In the event that you have to cancel your appointment we will try to accommodate you as soon as we can but during busy periods this can be difficult. Any last minute changes to your dress will incur additional “last minute” charges.
Both our seamstresses have been carefully chosen to fit with our luxury brand. They are fully qualified and highly skilled senior dress-makers with particular experience in working with designer wedding dresses using luxury fabrics and beautiful corsetry. At all times, you can trust them to work carefully by hand to ensure that your alterations are carried out to a high standard with the utmost care & attention. The cost of your alterations not only covers their time, their skills, and the materials they use, but also ensures that your dress is fully insured whilst in their care.
On top of having the best CV’s in the industry these ladies have been chosen for their gentle, kind and considerate natures which will instantly put you at ease during the final, important (and very exciting!) stages of your wedding dress journey.
Nicola will always be on hand during your fittings to answer any queries you may have. At your final fitting your wedding dress will be steamed and ready for you to take home in a Mathilda Rose dress bag.
Technically the gown belongs to you once it has been paid for in full and we are handling it in ‘trust’ for you. We can undertake storing your gown for you at a cost of £50. The gown may be taken into storage (off site) at busy times and only brought back to the store for fittings. This cost covers the additional insurance required during this time.
